Affiliated to China Merchants Group, China Merchants Energy Shipping Co., Ltd. (“CMES”)was jointly established by leading companies from shipping and energy industry on 31 Dec 2004, based on the shipping assets of Hong Kong Ming Wah Shipping Co. Ltd. and Associated Maritime Company (Hong Kong) Limited. CMES runs a modern and diverse fleet of ocean-going tankers, bulk carriers and liquefied natural gas ships as core business.

Hong Kong Ming Wah Shipping Co. Ltd
Hong Kong Ming Wah Shipping Co. Ltd (“HKMW”), incorporated in Hong Kong on 8 January 1980 is a professional bulk carrier management company, providing safe, efficient and cost effective ship management services.

Associated Maritime Company (Hong Kong) Limited
Associated Maritime Company (Hong Kong) Limited (“AMCL”) was incorporated in Hong Kong on 30 November 1993. As a well-known tanker operator, AMCL is the forerunner introducing VLCC to the Asia-Pacific region and has been undertaking VLCC fleet management since 1970s. AMCL is one of the leading tanker managers and operators in the world.

China LNG Shipping (Holdings) Limited
China LNG Shipping (Holdings) Limited. (“CLNG”) was incorporated by China Merchants Group and COSCO on 15 March 2004. China LNG Shipping (International) Co., Ltd (“CLSICO”) is jointly invested by CLNG and China National Offshore Oil Corp. (“CNOOC”) providing LNG ship management services.

On 1st December 2006, CMES successfully completed its IPO and listed on Shanghai Stock Exchange and thus become a blue chip in the capital market in China.

Non-public Offering
In March 2012, CMES completed non-public offering by issuing additional shares to Sinopec Group, Sinopec Group and China Life Insurance Company Ltd., expanded share holding base and enhanced financial strength of the company significantly. Sinopec Group holds 20% of CMES shares currently.


China VLCC Company Founded

On 5th September 2014, a Shareholders’ Agreement was successfully signed between the China Merchants Group and the Sinotrans & CSC, pursuant to which a joint venture named China VLCC Company Limited was founded as a subsidiary of CMES and was aimed at building up the world’s largest VLCC fleet consisting of more than 40 vessels in 2 years.


a Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement signed with VALE

On 26th September 2014, HKMW,a subsidiary of CMES, signed a Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement with VALE International SA. According to the agreement, Ming Wah and VALE will further enter into a 25-year iron ore COA and Ming Wah is going to order and build 10 new VLOCs for this purpose.


  Century Shipping Business Foundation

Established in 1872, the late Qing Dynasty, China Merchants is the forerunner of China’s national industry and commerce. She inaugurated the Chinese national shipping industry and played an important part at a number of critical historical junctures of China. She organized the first modern shipping fleet of China, started the first commercial coastal route and the first commercial route over Yangtze River, trained the first group of modern Chinese shipping managers and was praised as the trailblazer and representative of the modern Chinese national shipping industry.

In 1872, foundation of China Merchants, was the beginning of modern national shipping in China.

In 1873, maiden voyage of ‘Aden’ to Hong Kong, was a symbol of opening of the China’s first commercial coastal route.
